The US winter wheat harvest is gathering pace after wet weather earlier in the season caused delays. As of mid-June, 11 per cent of the crop was harvested versus an average of 18 per cent, and the crop condition rating was 61 per cent good to excellent.
Growers are expected to be slow sellers because prices are low.
A larger US winter wheat crop than last year, with good condition ratings, adds to ample world wheat supply and pressures prices. Reluctant farmer selling may limit near-term supply, but the bearish balance still weighs on wheat.
