Mexico's agriculture minister Jose Calzada said he will lead a business delegation to Argentina and Brazil within 20 days to explore buying yellow corn. He added that the government could consider quotas or changes to the tariff regime for South American imports.
The move is part of an effort to reduce dependence on the US.
A formal trade mission and possible quotas or tariff changes on South American corn would directly reduce Mexico's purchases of US corn. That is bearish for US corn export prices.
