Kansas Extension warns that recent heat can harm summer row crops. With over 40 percent of corn silking by July 10, temperatures above 95 F and reduced day-night temperature swings could reduce kernel number and grain weight.
Heat during silking and grain fill can cut final corn yields, tightening feed grain supplies and supporting prices. The effect is greatest where heat combines with drought.
