Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts outlined three priorities for the 2018 farm bill: better access to crop insurance, reduced regulatory burden and stronger export markets. He said farm income has dropped 50 percent since its 2014 peak, with crop receipts down more than $42 billion.
He called for bipartisan cooperation to pass the bill.
Export-market and crop-insurance priorities are supportive of US grain and oilseed demand and farm finances over the medium term. The remarks are policy goals rather than enacted changes, so the immediate price effect is small.
