Malaysia suspended crude palm oil export taxes for three months from January 8, 2018, to boost exports and cut stockpiles. Palm oil stocks reached two-year highs of 2.7 million tonnes at end-December, up 59% year-on-year.
The minister described the step as a short-term measure to improve competitiveness.
Lower export costs and possible sales gains of up to 15% could draw down Malaysian inventories and firm CPO prices, a bullish signal for palm oil and a competitive threat to rival vegetable oils.
