The French Ministry of Agriculture estimates 2018 wheat acreage, including a small amount of summer wheat, at 4.98 million hectares, slightly up from 4.96 million in 2017. Barley acreage is estimated at 1.85 million hectares, down from 1.91 million, and sugar beet acreage is roughly flat at 483,000 hectares.
Wheat plantings are essentially unchanged, so the estimate gives little new supply signal. The smaller barley area is a minor bearish factor for feed barley supply in Europe.
