South Africa's Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries confirmed an African Swine Fever outbreak in the Springbok area of the Northern Cape, linked to pig movements from Kimberley. The area falls outside the country's existing ASF controlled zones, and provincial veterinary services are applying control measures.
A new ASF outbreak outside controlled zones raises the risk of wider spread and movement restrictions on pigs and pork in South Africa, tightening local pork supply and modestly supporting feed demand for pig producers.
