The Korean won weakened past 1,100 per dollar for the first time since November, closing at 1,109.1 on June 19 as global funds sold local assets. Analysts linked the selloff to the US-China trade war, which threatens Korean exports, and to expectations of faster Fed rate hikes.
A weaker won makes Korean buyers of US feed commodities pay more in local terms and can signal weaker export-driven demand; the currency move is driven by trade tensions and Fed policy rather than grain supply.
