A University of Missouri economist says the 2020 hog price outlook is bright after the phase one US-China agreement. The agreement includes $40 billion in annual Chinese farm purchases over two years and tariff relief.
Most 2020 lean hog futures traded above $68 per hundredweight, with summer contracts above $87.
Expected Chinese demand from African swine fever losses and the trade deal supports forward hog prices above production costs of about $63 per hundredweight.
