Colombia's central bank said it is not concerned after the US dollar broke through COP3,000 earlier in the week as investors moved to safe-haven US currency. The peso's decline followed a broader selloff triggered by the Turkish lira's sharp drop and US-China trade tensions.
The central bank said it will let the exchange rate float and sees no danger to the economy at present.
A weaker peso and stronger dollar make US exports pricier for Colombian buyers and can shift feed import costs in Latin America, while a firm dollar generally pressures US dollar-denominated grain prices.
