Citi analyst Anthony Yuen expects US gas stocks to end October at 3,330 to 3,370 bcf, the lowest October month-end since 2005. He warns a severe cold snap could push Henry Hub cash prices to $12 to $16 per MMBtu.
The November contract finished at $3.054, up 7.4 cents.
Low end-of-season stocks leave the market vulnerable to winter supply shocks, which could sharply raise gas prices. The outcome depends on winter weather, and current prices remain near $3 with output rising.
