The trade-weighted dollar hit a new high for 2019 as weaker growth and softer monetary policy abroad outweighed US activity news. The dollar index has recovered about three-quarters of its decline since January 2017.
A strengthening dollar makes US grain, meal and feed exports less competitive and pressures commodity prices priced in dollars, while weakening emerging-market currencies can curb import demand.
