The dollar rose against major peers on Tuesday as investors awaited new catalysts after EU parliamentary elections showed a polarised bloc. The euro slipped 0.1% to $1.1182 after bouncing from a 1.5-week high, and the dollar index rose 0.2% to 97.804, about 0.6% below a two-year high.
Trump's pressure on Japan over its trade surplus also kept the yen in a holding pattern.
A firmer dollar makes US commodity exports like soybeans and corn less competitive abroad and tends to weigh on dollar-denominated grain prices, though the move was small.
