Maersk is preparing contingency plans for a possible nationwide rail strike at CN and CPKC. It plans to shift cargo from Vancouver's Centerm terminal to Prince Rupert and to use the Port of Tacoma for some sailings.
A government request could delay the strike.
Contingency rerouting shows that a rail strike would add port congestion and shipping costs. The effect on grain and feed prices stays limited while the strike is only a possibility.
