A new hybrid wheat variety, Karan Vandana (DBW-187), is set for national launch after strong trial yields of 7.8-8 tonnes per hectare versus 6-6.5 for normal varieties. Wheat stocks are already oversupplied, so the wider supply could push prices down.
Higher-yielding wheat in an already surplus Indian market would weigh on domestic wheat prices and reduce import needs, a mildly bearish signal for wheat.
