Indian non-basmati rice exports are expected to drop this year due to high procurement costs under the minimum support price and the lack of a long-term export policy. Competitors Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam are gaining share, and global rice output is forecast lower.
Uncompetitive Indian pricing shifts demand to Asian rivals, and a lower global production forecast tightens the rice trade balance, which is supportive for rough rice prices.
