A 35-barge tow pushed by the Ray Eckstein grounded at Victoria Bend, Mile 595 of the Lower Mississippi, on September 19. The river was temporarily closed while barges were cleared, with 18 moved downriver by press time and traffic queued in both directions.
Closures on the Lower Mississippi delay barge movements of grain and soybeans to Gulf export terminals, widening basis and adding freight costs for feed buyers.
