Southern Indiana farmers report early corn and soybean yields well below expectations, with early soybeans near 30 bushels and corn around 150. Two weeks of 90-degree heat and little rain caused crops to mature prematurely and shrank kernels.
Pioneer agronomist Brian Bush says the yield loss will be significant.
Localized yield losses in Indiana add to a broader pattern of below-trend crops and support corn and soybean prices. Lighter test weights may also affect the quality of grain available to feed buyers.
