The Pakistani government acknowledged that urea and DAP fertilizer prices rose sharply, with urea up 36 percent year-on-year to Rs 2,040 per bag in October 2019. DAP was sold at Rs 3,712 per bag, well above the level implied by international prices of about US$312 per ton FOB.
Higher domestic fertilizer costs raise input expenses for Pakistani farmers and can squeeze crop margins and feed-grain demand, even as world phosphate prices have eased. The gap points to importer margins rather than global supply tightness, so international price direction is largely unchanged.
