Vientiane authorities set maximum rice prices, capping paddy sticky rice at 3,600 kip/kg for farmers and grade B polished wholesale at 6,800 kip/kg with retail capped at 7,400 kip/kg. The move follows crop losses from natural disasters and the Covid-19 economic crisis, with wet-season planting underway.
Price caps are a local consumer-protection measure and have limited effect on global rice benchmarks, though they signal tight domestic supply in Laos.
