Asia’s record gas prices underline the need to make its markets more resilient

Asian spot LNG prices rose more than fourfold between early December 2020 and mid-January 2021, climbing above USD 30/MBtu after a cold spell and tight supply. Some cargoes reportedly traded near USD 40/MBtu, a record.

The IEA says milder weather will ease pressure but calls for policy reforms to improve market resilience.
