Vietnam signed a contract to buy 70,000 tonnes of 100% broken rice from India for shipment in January and February at about $310 per tonne FOB. Vietnamese feed producers are buying the lower-grade rice because domestic supplies of broken rice for animal feed have become scarce.
Vietnam's first purchase of Indian rice in decades adds import demand for low-grade broken rice used in animal feed, which supports prices for feed-grade rice.
