USDA's August WASDE cut global wheat production by 15.4 million metric tons to 777 million, citing weather problems in Russia, Canada and the United States. The global wheat stocks-to-use ratio fell to a forecast 35%, its lowest since 2016/17.
The corn stocks-to-use forecast of 24% is also below recent years.
A tighter stocks-to-use ratio signals that prices must rise to ration demand, supporting wheat and, to a lesser extent, corn prices.
