The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar at 4.1870/1890 on September 30, from the previous close of 4.1830/1855. A dealer cited a lack of market catalysts and higher US Treasury yields, while steady Brent crude near US$78.86 per barrel limited the decline.
Firm Brent prices support Malaysia's oil and palm oil export earnings and cushion the ringgit, which affects the local-currency cost of dollar-priced feed and energy inputs.
