The rupiah's gains stalled on March 31, 2022, closing at 14,363 per dollar, as the market reacted to Indonesia's planned rise in VAT to 11% from April 1. Dollar strength also came from hopes of de-escalation in Ukraine, which were tempered by skepticism.
Expected inflation from the VAT increase may weigh on domestic feed and livestock costs in Indonesia, and dollar-linked import prices stay elevated while the rupiah is weak.
