Global Canopy reports on a Trase policy briefing urging the EU to target deforestation checks at higher-risk areas in its proposed import regulation. Trase data shows 80% of deforestation linked to EU soy and beef imports from Brazil occurs in under 5% of producing municipalities.
Targeted enforcement could concentrate compliance costs on specific Brazilian soy and beef origins, a structural factor for EU soymeal sourcing without an immediate price signal.
