Bloomberg reports that the head of the International Chamber of Shipping says 80 to 100 bulk carriers have been stuck in Ukrainian waters for nearly two months due to mines and blockades. Bulk freight rates are rising as owners price in longer tie-ups, and grain trade is shifting toward longer Americas routes to Africa and Asia.
Higher freight costs raise landed grain prices for importers in Africa and Asia and favor Americas origins, supporting US and South American grain values relative to Black Sea supplies.
