The rupiah closed weaker on May 31, 2022, down 21 points to 14,578 per dollar, as US 10-year Treasury yields rose to 2.82% from 2.75%. Fed Governor Christopher Waller's hawkish remarks, backing 50 basis point hikes until inflation eases substantially, dampened hopes of a pause after June and July hikes.
A firmer dollar and higher US yields raise the local-currency cost of imported feed ingredients for Indonesia, supporting dollar-denominated commodity prices in rupiah terms.
