Southern Ag Today reports that the chance of a third consecutive La Niña is rising, which typically brings drought to the Southern Plains. The article recommends drought management strategies for cow-calf operations, such as early weaning, destocking and restocking, and cites a saving of $426 per breeding cow unit.
Drought-driven herd liquidation tightens cattle supply and supports feeder and live cattle prices over time, while higher feed costs weigh on margins.
