Mexico's 2020 decree to phase out GM corn for human consumption by January 2024 threatens a top US corn export market. Mexico is also considering a ban on 80 crop-protection products, and 2,000 pesticide registrations are pending.
Mexico takes a large share of US corn exports, so a biotech import ban would weaken US export demand and could pressure corn prices. Uncertainty over the timeline keeps this a medium-term risk.
