The WSJ reports that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused a global shortage of sunflower oil. That shortage has pushed prices of other edible oils to record highs, hitting food makers and consumers already facing inflation.
Sunflower oil is a major edible oil, and substitution into palm and soybean oil is driving those benchmarks higher. Higher vegetable oil prices raise costs for feed fats and processors, and the squeeze is likely to persist while Ukrainian supply stays constrained.
