Bank Indonesia deputy governor Aida Budiman said rupiah pressure stems from portfolio outflows as the dollar strengthens after Fed hikes. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose to 3.7-3.9%, and portfolio net outflows from Indonesia reached $0.6 billion.
Foreign reserves stood at $132.2 billion at end-August.
Rising US yields pull capital out of emerging markets, and the resulting rupiah weakness raises import costs. Ample reserves limit how far the currency is likely to fall.
