USDA's September 12 WASDE surprised traders with bullish soybean yield, production and ending stocks figures. Corn planted and harvested area were cut by 1.2 million and 1 million acres after a re-survey, and corn production fell to 13.94 billion bushels.
A smaller soybean balance sheet tightens supplies of soybeans and soymeal, supporting feed protein prices. The lower corn crop also firms corn values.
