The biofuel industry is bracing for disruption if rail workers strike, since 70% of ethanol shipments move by rail. Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper called a strike a disaster that could halt biorefineries.
Most crop-based fuels, including corn ethanol, depend on freight trains for inputs and outputs.
A strike would idle ethanol plants and cut corn and soybean crush demand for biofuel feedstocks. That is bearish for corn and the feed co-products it generates.
