Soybean oil futures in Chicago fell 16.8% during the week ending around December 5 after the EPA set biofuel blending increases of only about 1% for 2023-25 and allowed canola oil for biodiesel. Malaysian palm oil futures also fell 4.4% on the week.
The EPA's modest mandate and the new canola oil pathway reduce expected US soyoil demand and add competing feedstock, pressuring vegetable oil prices and the value of oilseed crush.
