A palm oil watchdog warns that the EU deforestation law could sideline small farmers who may struggle to provide the required verifiable land information. The law covers palm oil, soy, beef, wood, cocoa and coffee and some derived products.
Smaller producers being excluded could tighten supply of compliant palm oil and soy-based products into the EU. Price effects would likely be gradual as compliance systems develop.
