The USDA Grain Transportation Report says the Panama Canal will limit transits to 32 vessels per day from July 30, below the long-term average of 35-36. Gatún Lake water levels are 7% below the five-year average and near record lows, and no date has been set for restoring normal draft levels.
Fewer daily transits and draft limits raise ocean freight costs and slow US Gulf grain exports to Asia, which weighs on US export basis and corn, soybean and wheat prices.
