South African poultry producer Quantum Foods said nearly 2 million chickens worth 106 million rand have been killed by a highly pathogenic bird flu outbreak. It lost about 1.5 million laying and breeding birds in the current wave, on top of 420,000 layers lost in April.
Heavy layer and breeder losses tighten South African egg and chicken supply, supporting local poultry prices and raising import demand for feed ingredients to rebuild flocks.
