The dollar was on track for its biggest monthly gain since September, and the yen dropped sharply as markets reconsidered Fed and BOJ rate moves. Bond futures now price two quarter-point Fed cuts in 2024, with the first in August, and Evergrande was ordered wound up in Hong Kong.
A stronger dollar makes US-priced commodities more expensive for buyers outside the US and can weigh on export demand. The Evergrande news also points to weaker Chinese property-linked demand.
