The regulation requires importers, traders and exporters to prove that cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya, wood and derived products are deforestation-free, legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement.
Due diligence obligations on importers add paperwork and cost for soy, palm oil and cattle-derived products shipped to the EU, which can shift trade flows and affect EU import demand.
