Chinese businesses are hoarding dollars because they expect the yuan to weaken, and this is amplifying a slide driven by volatile stock markets and weak growth. The yuan has hit five-month lows, down 1.9% against the dollar this year and about 5% since the start of 2023.
A weaker yuan makes Chinese buyers' dollar-priced imports such as soymeal and corn costlier and can slow Chinese feed demand, while a weaker yuan also makes Chinese exports cheaper, a mixed signal for feed-ingredient prices.
