USDA's March Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook raised its 2024 fed steer price projection to $183.00 per cwt and its feeder steer forecast to $254.00. Feeder steer prices reached $249.15 in mid-March, close to $62 above a year earlier.
Fed cattle carcass weights are heavier than a year ago.
Higher USDA cattle price forecasts reflect firm demand and tighter market-ready supplies, supporting cattle values and the feed demand tied to finishing.
