Bloomberg reports that traders of soybeans, coffee and rubber had been paying premiums to farmers for deforestation-free supplies ahead of the EU rules. The EU's proposed delay of those rules now upends those sourcing plans.
Premiums paid for compliant supply may fall if demand for certified product is postponed, which weakens the price incentive for segregated soy and palm supply. The effect is modest and mainly on premium pricing.
