European lawmakers approved a delay to the EU Deforestation Regulation, which was due to take effect on 30 December, and sought changes to the law. The regulation requires products sold in Europe, including coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy and wood, to be free of deforestation.
A delayed and possibly loosened rule reduces compliance costs and documentation burdens for soy and palm oil supply chains into the EU, which is modestly supportive for trade flows in the near term.
