The baht opened at 34.58 per dollar on December 19, weakening from the prior close of 34.21 after the Fed's 25bp cut and a cut in expectations for 2025 easing. Gold fell more than 2% in the same session as the dollar and US yields rose.
A weaker baht raises the local cost of dollar-priced feed imports, and the gold sell-off signals a firmer dollar that tends to weigh on dollar-denominated commodities.
