The dollar finished 2024 firm, on course for strong annual gains against most currencies as investors priced in fewer U.S. rate cuts and the incoming Trump administration's policies. The dollar index was about 108, near its two-year high, and the yen was headed for a roughly 10% decline against the dollar.
A firm dollar makes U.S. commodities more expensive for foreign buyers, which generally weighs on export demand and prices for grains, oilseeds and meals. Trade policy expectations add to that downside risk for 2025.
