Spot gold fell more than 2% below $2,600 on December 18 after the Fed cut rates but its dot plot showed only two cuts for 2025. Powell said inflation risks remain tilted to the upside and that the 2% target could take one to two years to reach.
The hawkish dot plot lifts real yields and the dollar, pressuring gold and other dollar-priced commodities. Feed buyers should expect firmer dollar conditions to weigh on import-currency purchasing power into 2025.
