The JRC's October ASAP assessment reports mixed rainfall for winter cereals in the Middle East and Central Asia and expects drought in Somalia and neighbouring areas. It also notes below-average yields expected in parts of eastern Sudan and Ethiopia, and high acute food insecurity in East Africa.
These are mostly regional food security issues with limited effect on world grain supply. Crop losses in Sudan and Ethiopia are small relative to global exporters, so the price impact is minimal.
