US officials warned on Friday that the EU Deforestation Regulation could cost American exporters access to the bloc if implemented without changes. A USDA official said compliance burdens such as traceability and segregation would fall on US soybean exports, which Washington estimates could affect about €7.8 billion in annual US exports to the EU.
The EU is set to review the regulation in April.
Reduced US soybean meal and soybean access would tighten EU protein feed supply, potentially lifting European feed costs and shifting demand toward Brazilian soy.
