On 10 February 2022 Indonesia introduced a domestic market obligation requiring exporters of crude palm oil, refined palm olein and other palm mixtures to sell 20% of export volume at home. The rule was set under Trade Ministry Regulation No. 129/2022 and was slated to run until 10 March 2022.
Diverting a fifth of Indonesian export volume to a capped domestic market tightens palm supply available for export, supporting global palm and soyoil prices while lowering Indonesian domestic prices.
